Qualified Charitable Distributions

Support DeLaSalle in a tax-wise and meaningful way
If you are age 70½ or older, you have a unique opportunity to support DeLaSalle High School through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA).
A QCD allows you to make a gift directly from your IRA to DeLaSalle, helping form the next generation of Islanders while also offering potential tax advantages.
What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA to a qualified charitable organization, such as DeLaSalle High School.
Because the funds go directly to the school, the distribution is not counted as taxable income, which may help reduce your overall tax burden.
Additionally, your gift can count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year.
Why consider a QCD?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution offers several meaningful benefits:
- Support DeLaSalle students today by investing in a Catholic, Lasallian education
- Reduce taxable income, which may positively impact Social Security and Medicare calculations
- Satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if applicable
- Give directly and immediately, allowing your generosity to make an impact right away
For many families, this is a powerful way to align financial planning with faith and mission.
Key guidelines to keep in mind
To make a Qualified Charitable Distribution:
- You must be 70½ years of age or older
- Gifts must be made directly from your IRA to DeLaSalle High School
- You may give up to $100,000 annually per individual
- The gift must be completed by December 31 to count for that tax year
- QCD gifts are not eligible for an additional charitable deduction
We encourage you to consult your financial or tax advisor to determine how a QCD may benefit your specific situation.

Important Requirements to Keep in Mind
Age Requirement: You must be at least age 70½ at the time the distribution is made.
Direct Transfer Rule: The check must be made payable directly to DeLaSalle High School. If the funds are withdrawn and paid to you first, the distribution will be treated as taxable income and will not qualify as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).
Receipt of Benefit: IRS regulations require that you receive no goods or services in exchange for a QCD. This includes items such as event tickets, auction purchases, or tuition payments.
Timing: The transfer must be completed (postmarked or cleared) by December 31 in order to count for the current tax year.
Eligible Accounts: QCDs are generally available from Traditional, Roth, and Inherited IRAs. They are not available from active SEP or SIMPLE IRAs.
