Service Learning Program

DeLaSalle’s Service Learning program creates, fosters and supports opportunities for students to learn and grow as servant leaders in the world today. Through the Service Learning program, students begin to understand people in need and explore ways that they can make a difference on a local and global level. DeLaSalle hopes that such service becomes a life-long habit for its graduates.  In an effort to help students explore and discover their individual call to service, DeLaSalle’s Service Learning program includes the following opportunities and requirements. 

Required Service Hours

  • All students (including transfer students) must complete 60 hours of service in the community by Feb. 1 of their 12th grade year. 

  • 50% of required hours must be completed with one consistent organization/mission (church, camp, non-profit organization, etc.)*

  • All service hours must be completed outside of DeLaSalle with community organizations. We are proud of the work our students do in the greater community, the impact they make, and the personal growth that transpires from reaching out to those in need.

How to Log and Track Service Hours

All students may log hours using a google form. 

Log Service Hours on the Service Learning Entry Form 

Note: students must be logged into their school apps account when accessing the form.
Individualized emails indicating the total number of hours logged for 10th - 12th grade students will be emailed to students and families. Students wanting an update prior can reach out at anytime to servicelearning@delasalle.com

Feed My Starving Children with DeLaSalle

  • What: Join fellow De students to serve at Feed My Starving Children
  • When: 3:30-6:45 p.m. on the last Monday of the month (Sept 25, Oct. 30, Nov. 27)
  • Where: Feed my Starving Children in Coon Rapids. Busing available through DeLaSalle
  • How to sign up: Save the date and check the Source for registration link. More info coming soon

Habitat for Humanity: 12th Grade Only

  • What: Help build new homes through Habitat for Humanity. No previous construction experience needed.
  • When: Wednesday, Oct. 11, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
  • Where: Various locations in Minneapolis and Richfield

Abbot Northwestern Hospital Volunteers Needed:

At Abbott Northwestern Hospital, we provide unique volunteer opportunities for high school students to gain experience working in a hospital environment, explore careers in the medical field, develop important skills for great customer service and more. The skills students gain through Abbott Northwestern Hospital volunteering can support future career or educational pathways. 

Currently, we need volunteers to assist patients and guests who may be entering our buildings or navigating them in new ways because of the exciting work underway to revitalize and update our campus.

Tutoring at Immaculate Conception School

  • What: Tutoring elementary students in after school program
  • When: 3:30-4:30/5 p.m. Volunteers can select days Monday-Friday.

Tutoring at Robbinsdale Middle School

  • What: Middle School Tutoring Sessions 
  • When: Monday @ Robbinsdale Middle or Tuesday @ Sandburg Middle 3:45-5:30 p.m.  You pick the day and we will schedule sessions around your availability.
  • Where: Robbinsdale Middle School 3730 Toledo Ave N, Robbinsdale, MN 55422

  • More Details: We are looking for you to share your brilliance and gain volunteer hours. As a DeLaSalle graduate, I remember the grind to get my hours completed. Come to Robbinsdale Middle School and share your knowledge in Math, Science, English, and History. The scholars of RMS would love to learn from you and you would be helping the next generation of excellence achieve success in their classroom studies. 

Servant Scholar Award: Class of 2024

Servant Scholar Recognition is given to DeLaSalle graduates who have gone above and beyond in their commitment to service. These students are recognized in the graduation program and wear light blue cords at graduation.


Servant Scholar Criteria:

Complete 100 service learning hours or more with 50% of required hours dedicated to one organization/mission.

Complete the Servant Scholar Application by Dec. 15 of senior year. Applications can be found on the Service Learning page in the Islander Course on Canvas.

Complete and log all service hours by Feb. 1 of senior year. 

Compete Servant Scholar Final Project (outlined in application) by Feb. 1 of senior year. 

Timeline/Deadlines:
  • Dec. 1: Servant Scholar Application due for those applying for award 
  • Feb. 1: All Service Learning Hours completed and logged for 12th grade students
  • Feb. 1: Servant Scholar Final Project due
