Celebrating 125 Remarkable Years
Our History
With faith, vision, determination – and a generous gift of $25,000 seed money, Archbishop John Ireland broke ground in 1898 for a Catholic secondary school in Minneapolis. Ireland had one stipulation for the new school on Nicollet Island: that it be run by the Brothers of the Christian Schools. The Archbishop knew of the Brothers’ particular calling to educate the poor and working classes in any part of the world in which they worked.
This was the start of DeLaSalle High School as we know it today. For the past 125 years, DeLaSalle has provided students from across the Twin Cities a high quality secondary education rooted in Catholic, Lasallian values.
This year, we are thrilled to celebrate 125 years of Catholic Education on Nicollet Island! Mark your calendars for a community-wide celebration on Saturday, May 3!
We hope to see you there.

"Catholic education cannot be taken for granted. It is a privilege, but it also shouldn't just be a privilege for those who can afford it."
"To be a giver is a part of what we are called to be. These kids deserve a chance and if I can help, then let's make it so."
"Academically, Cornell was rigorous but DeLaSalle helped prepare me for that level of rigor."
