529 Plans
Did you know that families may use 529 college savings plans to help pay for tuition at DeLaSalle?
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, signed into law in December 2017 and effective January 1, 2018, expanded the use of 529 plans to include up to $10,000 per year in tuition expenses for K–12 private schools. Funds held in a 529 plan grow tax-free, and withdrawals are also tax-free when used for qualified educational expenses. Prior to this legislation, qualified expenses were limited to costs associated with attendance at an accredited post-secondary institution. While the federal law allows tax-free withdrawals for K–12 tuition, individual states continue to evaluate how this change interacts with existing state tax rules and benefits.
