Convocation Salutes the Class of 2022

The entire DeLaSalle school community gathered this past Tuesday for the Class of 2022 Convocation which honors all seniors and highlights award-winning accomplishments. As with all Lasallian events, the hour began with prayer, a Scripture reading of this year’s prayer theme, and a reflection on God’s love by our school chaplain, Fr. Kevin Kenney ’78. DeLaSalle Alumni Denny Farrell ’62 and Pat Kaiser ’74 assisted with recognizing 12 current juniors who were awarded Alumni Scholarships toward their senior year tuition.

Special guest, Ms. April Estes, presented the Brittani Estes ’10 Scholarship.  Then, DeLaSalle announced the names of 17 seniors who received the most prestigious awards earned by our seniors in any year, the “DeLaSalle Awards” and “Islander Awards.”

For more than four decades, by vote of the entire staff, approximately ten percent of each graduating class has been honored for their broad and generous contributions to the DeLaSalle community as students, leaders, and peers, with the top two vote-getters receiving the DeLaSalle Award  and the next highest group recognized with the Islander Award.  The final award presented was the Giving Tree Award.

In honor of distinguished community service given by one or more senior students, the Giving Tree program makes a donation to Islander scholarships. Fr. Kevin returned to the podium to lead all in extending hands over the seniors for a prayer of blessing. The convocation ended with the seniors exiting the Florance Center through a tunnel of applause.
