2024 SPRING SPORTS RECAP

Baseball

This was a successful spring for the baseball program!  We had three teams this year, and all three competed well at their respective levels.  Varsity finished the year with an 11-12 record, good for 4th in the increasingly challenging Tri-Metro Conference.  Rourick Gulbrandson, Quest Mazique Jr., and Franklin Sellner earned all conference honors and Owen Boss and Owen Svien were named All Conference Honorable Mention.  This year, we built a very strong culture that is going to lead us forward for years to come, especially considering the number of underclassmen that we had on the varsity team.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our outgoing seniors.  You will be missed, but you will always have a place at a DeLaSalle baseball game.

Softball

This season has been one of remarkable achievements and unforgettable moments for the DeLaSalle Softball team. Our dedicated players showcased incredible talent and teamwork, making this year a historic one for our program. The team proudly secured third place in our conference, demonstrating our consistent performance and determination throughout the season. This accomplishment set the tone for the rest of our journey, fueling our drive to push even further. Our resilience paid off as we advanced to our sectional competitions, where we made history by getting third place, further than DeLaSalle softball has ever gone before. This marked a significant milestone for our team and set a new standard for future seasons. The success of our team is a testament to the collective effort our players put in. Their commitment to excellence and their ability to work were evident in every game. We are especially proud of our four players who earned All-Conference honors. Additionally, multiple players received Honorable Mentions, highlighting the depth of talent within our team. As we reflect on this season, we celebrate not only our achievements but also the growth we had. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to make DeLaSalle proud in the years to come.

Boys Golf

Boys golf finished the season in third place in conference play.  Unfortunately, in section play, no player advanced into the second round.  Junior Isaiah Beech qualified for All Conference. Juniors Owen Johnson and Braden Prokott, along with Senior captain Max Johnson qualified for All Conference Honorable Mention.  The best round of the year went to Owen Johnson at our home course Columbia Golf Course vs. St. Paul Academy.  He was a medalist, shooting an even par 35.   Also at Columbia Golf Course, Isaiah Beech was a medalist during the match vs. Concordia Academy with a score of 37.  Next year, the team is returning four freshman, three sophomores, and six juniors.

Girls Golf

Girls golf had a great season and earned 4th place in the Tri-Metro conference! Sophomore Rayna Stecklein earned 1st place in a few matches and earned a trip to State. This is the first time a DeLaSalle girls golfer has advanced to the State Tournament!  We had an all conference golfer and two honorable mention golfers. Rayna Stecklein '26 was named All Conference, and Mary Carter '24 and Peyton Malcolm '27 were named All Conference Honorable Mention.  Two golfers advanced to the second day of sections - Sophomore Rayna Stecklein and Senior Mary Carter with Rayna qualifying for the State Tournament.  Rayna is the first female golfer in school history to advance to state.  Rayna competed in the Class AA Girls Individual State Golf Tournament.  She finished tied for 38th overall after posting a Day 1 score of 90 and Day 2 score of 41.  Stecklein was also medalist at the Burl Oaks Invitational, Holy Angels Conference match and placed 1st overall for the Tri Metro conference.

Boys Tennis

Boys Tennis ended their season with a 10-6 record and 3rd place in the conference! Many players made great improvements this year, including sophomore Henry Eldred, only losing 1 regular season match. Many of the players had winning records, including senior Giovanni Crescini, earning 3rd place in the individual section tournament. The All-Conference team included Giovanni Crescini ‘24, Leyton Griffith ‘26, Henry Eldred ‘26 and Honorable Mention went to Ellis Roberts ‘25 and Aidric Axvig ‘27.

Boys Lacrosse (co-op with Minnehaha Academy)

The TRIMAC Blackhawks varsity team finished with a 9-5 record, going 3-0 in conference to win the IMAC Conference Championship for the 2nd year in a row. The offense was led by All-Conference players Wyatt Hunt (SCL '24), Henry Hartllyn (SPA '25), and Luke Sitek (DLS '25). The defense was led by All-Conference players Daniel Koontz (SAS '24), Aedan Gallagher (NCA '24), Casey Lynn (SAS '24), and Dylan Schroeder (SCL '24).

The end of season section tournament started with a 12-4 win over Simley, but ended with a 18-4 quarter finals loss to Woodbury. Thank you to all our wonderful and dedicated seniors. We are looking forward to another fantastic season next year.

Boys Volleyball

In 2022, Diego Papier-Meister (freshmen at the time) started the boys volleyball team, and they had a few open gyms.  In 2023, it was the first season in the MN Boys High School Volleyball Association. The team in 2024 had a successful season overall. We placed seventh out of eleven in a very competitive Metro Conference. When we started our season in March, we had 15 players; and half of the team had never played volleyball, or any team sport. With such a young group, this was a huge year of growth for our program, as we bring our years as a club sport to an end. We have a very engaged underclassmen class that is ready to help build this program in the coming years. A highlight was our win in a close game against a conference rival,  BSM 4-1. We ended our season in a competitive match against Minneapolis Edison, with multiple sets going to extra points. This was a play-in match to make the playoffs and was also our programs first time playing for a playoff spot. Senior libero Gus Burrows earned All Conference and junior outside hitter Diego Papier-Meister earned Honorable Mention. We look forward to growing the game and establishing a boys volleyball program at DeLaSalle for the first fully sanctioned season in 2025!

Track & Field

Track & Field has a great season sending 16 events to the State Tournament and earning 39 podiums! The girls took home the section championship and the boys earned section runner up. Both boys and girls teams earned 2nd place in the True Team meet as well! Fifteen athletes earned the All-Conference award and thirteen athletes earned All-Conference Honorable Mention. They compete in state June 7-8 at St. Michael Albertville High School.

At the Class AA Track and Field Meet, the Islanders had some incredible finishers!  The girls 4x100m relay team consisting of Anna Gries ‘24, Naja Giles ‘24, Ayanna Zarlee ‘26, and Ervina Swaray ‘27 took 1st place, breaking the Class AA record with a time of 48.24.  Laila Moses ‘27 finished 2nd in the 100m hurdles and 4th in the 300m hurdles.  Ayanna Zarlee and Ervina Swaray finished 8th and 9th respectively in the 100m dash.  The boys 4x100m relay team, consisting of Jaden Alexander ‘25, Liam Cosgrove ‘26, De’von Irvin ‘25, and Rashad Fisher ‘25, took 7th place overall.  Darius Irvin took 2nd place in the 400m dash.  Giles ‘24 also finished 13th in the girls high jump.  Keenan Paschall ‘24 finished 14th in the boys shot put.   And Manuella Gbedjangni ‘24 finished 10th in the girls discus throw.  Congrats to all of the state competitors this season!
