Computer Graphics combines the artistic
creation of graphic images with the discipline of good writing skills and
layout design.
Students will use the many tools of Adobe Illustrator®
to study elements of graphic art: color, shape, proportion, texture, form,
and light, and using those elements, create original graphics for publication,
advertising, and web sites. They will also study and replicate the work of
famous painters and artists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Jackson
Pollock, Georges Seurat, Vincent van Gogh, and James Whistler.
With Adobe InDesign®, students will incorporate
their graphic images into the making of brochures, newspaper pages, posters,
and catalogues. InDesign tools allow students to compose with attractive typography,
easily flow text to columns and pages, make references, and stylize headings.
Throughout the course, the theory of graphic art as a vehicle of communication
will be emphasized. Students will note how graphic designers use specific
colors and fonts to convey a message to a particular audience.
