ONLINE DATABASES
Subscription databases are preferred resources for "surfing" the Internet. Better than mega-search engines that return millions of web site suggestions --many of them worthless to the researcher, subcription databases provide organized and authoritative information that can save time, frustration and assure that the information retrieved is legitimate and appropriate.

The Gale and OCLC databases are provided free of charge through the Electronic Library for Minnesota (ELM), which is supported by appropriations from the Minnesota Legislature.

EBSCOhost
Multi-disciplinary databases providing full text for nearly 12,000 total publications and indexing & abstracting for more than 16,000 publications. Coverage spans every area of academic study and general interest subject area and offers information dating as far back as the 1800s. In addition, the database contains more than 84,000 biographies, 86,000 primary source documents, 10,000 company profiles and an image collection of more than 107,000 photos, maps, and flags.

Country Reports
Statistical data and cultural information on the world's countries. Over 26,000 web pages of content and photographs explaining customs, economies, governments and current events.

ABC-CLIO Social Studies Databases
A comprehensive research solution for history and social studies covering American Government and History, Issues, United States at War, United States Geography, World Geography, and Ancient and Modern World History.

Literary Ref Center
A comprehensive literary reference database, which provides a broad spectrum of reference information. A full-text database that combines information from over 1,000 books and monographs, major literary encyclopedias and reference works, hundreds of literary journals, and unique sources not available anywhere else. LRC contains detailed information on the most studied authors and their works.

Proquest : Newspapers & History Study Center
The ProQuest® online information service provides access to thousands of current periodicals and newspapers, many updated daily. The History Study Center is an excellent resource for Social Studies students looking for photographs, maps, and documents.

Teen Health and Wellness
Developed for teens, with their concerns and perspective in mind, Teen Health & Wellness: Real Life, Real Answers provides students with comprehensive curricular support and self-help tools on topics including diseases, drugs, alcohol, nutrition, fitness, mental health, diversity, family life, and more. The Gale Group / InfoTrac
Provides unlimited access to 14 different databases of information including biographies, literature, opinion, and periodicals.

OCLC's First Search / WorldCat
The Online Computer Library Center's incredible list of books and materials available in libraries world-wide. Topic choice and advance search options narrow results to be truly useful.

Encyclopædia Britannica Online
The full encyclopedia plus the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary and a "workspace" feature to collect and save your research results.

Issues & Controversies at FACTS.com
An authoritative source of up-to-date, in-depth and objective information for factual analysis of opposing points of view on prominent issues of the day.

SIRS Researcher
A general reference database containing thousands of full-text articles exploring social, scientific, health, historic, business, economic, political and global issues. A great source for Social Justice, Christian Morality and Pro/Con issues.

          Many newspapers from around the world now have an online presence - here are links to many newspaper sites.

Proquest Newspapers Access to thousands of current newspapers, many updated daily containing full-text articles from 1986.

Refdesk Newspapers USA and International Newspapers.com
Catalog of online newspapers from around the world. Categories include international, national, college, business, religious, and entertainment.

Kidon Media A collection of links to many kinds of media resources (newspapers, magazines, Internet sites, radio, TV, and others) in a large number of countries and languages.
