Flying Foot Forum Assembly Today

Classes will follow a shortened schedule today because of the Flying Foot Forum assembly after 1st hour.

For two weeks some of our students have participated in a percussive dance residency with a local professional dance company called the Flying Foot Forum. This company will be performing for the entire community Friday morning. Our A Cappella Choir students will also participate in the performance.

Student Drawstring Bag Missing

A student DLS drawstring bag is missing from the 9th grade section of the Pepfest last Friday. If anyone has information on the bag or its contents please see Ms. Weeks. Thank you for your help to ensure that we value everyone's belongings.

School Parking on Saturday

More than 1,700 young people from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis will be at DeLaSalle on Saturday for the Archdiocesan Youth Day. If you are part of a sports team that has an away game on Saturday, please get a ride to De or take the city bus because parking will be very limited.

Parking is available in the parking garage at the corner of 2nd Avenue and 2nd Street SE. DeLaSalle will operate a shuttle from the 2nd Ave. and 2nd St. SE intersection to the school beginning at 1:00pm and from the school to the parking garage starting at 9:00pm. The shuttle will run based on rider demand but will not be in continous operation for the whole afternoon. The shuttle will pick up riders at the base of the stairs that lead up to the football field.

Six Students Earn National Merit Scholarship Recognition

Congratulations to seniors Ben Albert and Joe Vitt, who have been recognized as Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Ben and Joe will now complete detailed scholarship applications to be considered as finalists to receive a $2,500 National Merit scholarship that will be offered in the spring.

Four other seniors – Merritt Coughlan-Smith, Matt Elfstrand, Eric Peters and Jack Walstrom – have been recognized as commended students.

Students qualify for National Merit Scholarship recognition based on their PSAT/NMSQT selection index scores, which is a combination of their critical reading, mathematics and writing skills scores.

Student Council Elections Wrap Up Today

Congratulations to Tony Vu and Marcos Luna, who will serve on Student Council as the 9th grade president and vice president.

There will be an election during lunches today for 9th, 10th and 11th grade class representative. You will receive an electronic ballot in your student Islander Apps account. You must be signed in to your Islander Apps account to vote and you should vote only once from your iPad. Students who vote more than once will not have ANY of their votes counted.

Cafeteria Accounts Must Carry Positive Balance

Students who have a negative Cafeteria account balance of $10 will not be able to purchase items from the DeLaSalle Cafe until money is deposited into the account and the account carries a positive balance.

Senior Pictures Needed

Seniors must have pictures taken by October 20 to be included in the 2012-13 school yearbook.

DeLaSalle has chosen David Bank Studios to prepare the class composite photo and to provide all senior portraits for the yearbook. Please call 763.571.2265 or visit David Bank Studios for information. Sitting fees start at $30. You may still choose a photographer of your liking for your senior package.

If you do not have your picture taken by David Bank Studios, the yearbook committee will use your Student ID picture for the yearbook, and you will not be in the class composite that line the walls of DeLaSalle. Pictures from other studios will not be used in the yearbook.

Yearbooks On Sale

Yearbooks and senior ads are now on sale. Order between now and Thursday, September 20th to receive $5 off your total order. You can pick up order forms from Ms. Beckman in the Library and Technology Center. Or you can order online through the Balfour website.

Summer Health Students

Students in the summer Health class must turn in their fitness log, 85 days log, paper about the 85 days and how to choose a health club by Friday, October 5. Please email all assignments to Mr. Christianson.

Parking and Transportation

Parking Permits On Sale Now

Parking permits are on sale now in the Business Office for juniors and seniors and will go on sale on Monday, September 10, for sophomores. Permits are required to park in the parking lot. The cost of the permit has increased from $120 to $150.

Two types of permits are available. One is a sticker that you can apply to the back window of your vehicle but cannot transfer to other vehicles. The other type of permit is a tag you hang on your rearview mirror and can transfer between vehicles.

Step Team Meets Soon

DeLaSalle's Step Team, the DeLaSouljah's, will begin practicing on Tuesday, September 18th at 7:30am in the Robert Casanova Room. All are welcome to attend this initial practice. For more information check out the Step Team webpage or contact Ms. Weeks or Mr. Hallman.

Girls' Basketball Signup

Archdiocesean Youth Day

The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis is hosting a youth day at DeLaSalle on Saturday. Pre-registration is required through your parish. All DeLaSalle spots are filled.

Mass at the Brothers' Residence

Fr. Patrick Barnes will celebrate Mass in the Chapel on the 2nd floor of the Brothers' Residence at 3:30pm on Tuesday, September 18 and Tuesday, September 25. He will also celebrate Mass at 7:45am on Tuesday, October 2, and Tuesday, October 9.

7th Annual Fall Service Fair

On Wednesday, September 19, Lasallian Ministry will be sponsoring a service fair during lunches. Several service agencies will be available at booths in the hallway by the Florance Center and Atrium to share information on how you can get involved. Please make the most of this great opportunity.

Christian Service

Christian Brothers Gala is seeking volunteers to help bring the Gala to life on Saturday, October 13. Volunteers can help with setup, as parking lot attendants, appetizer servers, dinner servers, dish clean-up team, auction team and operations clean-up. Students can use their Gala volunteering to fulfill their Christian Service requirement. Recommendation Letters

Seniors: As you are getting prepared and perhaps already in the process of applying to colleges, please come to the Guidance Office to pick up a Letter of Recommendation Request form to give to your teachers. The forms are in the bookcase next to Ms. Hansen's office. And, if you have not had a college planning meeting with guidance staff, please sign up to do so ASAP!

Scholarship Opportunity

The QuestBridge National College Match provides academically talented high school seniors from low-income backgrounds with full scholarships to top colleges. The deadline to apply is September 28.  Use this link to find out more information on the qualifications and view the list of member colleges to which this scholarship will apply. Off Campus Events

Smith College is hosting the annual Women of Distinction program from November 9-11, 2012. Women of Distinction is a program for high school seniors that highlights the opportunities at Smith for African American, Latina, Asian American, and Native American students. Admission is competitive. Smith will provide round-trip transportation, meals and accommodations for all participants. The application is now available online.

Smith is an all women's college that is consistently ranked among the top in the nation. If you are a senior and woman of color with interest in attending Smith, please consider this opportunity. If you have questions or need help with the application, please visit with someone from the Guidance Office.

On Campus College Rep Visits

Representatives from different colleges and universities visit DeLaSalle to meet with interested juniors and seniors. Stay tuned for further updates about which schools will have representatives on campus.

Become a Theater Critic

Time is running out to see the greatest Broadway musical shows coming to Minneapolis --Beauty and the Beast, Shear Madness, Prisicilla Queen of the Desert, and Mary Poppins to name a few. You must turn in your application by Wednesday. See Ms. Zawislak for more details.

The School Store is sold out of iPad cases and will not be ordering new ones. iPad covers are available for purchase at most office supply and discount stores. like Target, for a reasonable cost. iPad covers should cover the corners and be durable enough to protect the device.

School Store Hours

The School Store offers a full selection of authorized uniform shorts, shirts, sweatshirts and physical education apparel. During the school year, the store is open:

  • Monday afternoons from 3:30 - 5:00pm

  • Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:15 - 5:00pm

  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00 - 8:30am

  • During all home football games

  • During all doubleheader boys and girls varsity basketball games
