Fundraising through the Islander Foundation
~ An Introduction
We’re excited to offer this excellent fundraising program! DeLaSalle
students and family members operate concession services at the HHH
Metrodome, the Target Center, and University of Minnesota athletic
events. For this work, these businesses contribute to the Islander
Foundation.
Approximately 80% of the revenue is dedicated to student/family-related
programs and tuition assistance, and the remainder covers the Islander
Foundation operating expenses. For example, the Metrodome may pay
$60 for a concession stand shift; $50 of that goes to an Islander
Foundation program of the worker's choice, and $10 funds the Islander
Foundation's liability insurance and other administrative expenses.
The money earned will vary from one event to another.
In turn, volunteer workers may apply for grants from the Islander
Foundation to help offset the expenses associated with attending DeLaSalle
or to help improve or expand opportunities for particular school activities.
With the donation of time, initiative, and effort, this program can
make a big difference for an individual family or for a school activity.
To arrange one of these fundraising opportunities for your family
or for a particular DeLaSalle group, please contact the coordinator,
Douge Schildgen, douge.schildgen@delasalle.com.
HHH Metrodome “Field Fare” Concession
Stands
Members of the DeLaSalle community have been trained as managers,
and lead groups of adults and students who operate a concession stand
at Vikings and Gopher football games and Twins baseball games. Because
of beer sales, the student involvement is limited to four students
per concession stand operated primarily by adults. Our group requires
that any student working be accompanied by an adult family member
or someone approved by that student’s guardian. All Metrodome
workers are required to attend an orientation/training session, and
these are offered twice a month. Students also must be at least 16
years old to work at the Metrodome.
• Dress Code for Metrodome Workers:
-- Black Pants
-- Work shoes or Tennis Shoes (no open toes or heels)
-- White or predominantly white shirt
-- Long hair must be securely pulled back • Directions to Metrodome
Training Sessions
Training Sessions are at the Metrodome, basement level:
Drive into the east parking lot (corner of 11th Avenue & 5th Street).
Sign will say "Authorized Parking."
Below the Gate “D” area is a delivery ramp. Look for the
single door marked “Loading Dock."
Once inside, check in with security guard, our group name is "DeLaSalle
High School, Mpls."
Target Center Concession Stands
DeLaSalle operates one of two pizza stands in the Target Center for
all Timberwolves games. Again, because of beer sales, we are limited
in the number of students who are able to work, and the minimum age
is 17 years. There is also a training session required by the Target
Center before working these events.
University of Minnesota Events
A number of DeLaSalle sports and activities groups will be fundraising
at various University of Minnesota events including men’s &
women’s basketball at Williams arena. We will also reserve many
of these games for individuals and families to do fundraising, too.
There are no alcohol sales at the University of Minnesota, so no training
session is required and the age minimum is not as strict as the Target
Center.
• Williams Arena for Men’s and Women’s Basketball
Report to Williams Arena: 1925 University Avenue SE.
-- Check in at the listed "report time" for your event (listed
above). Workers must wear black pants (no sweats or wind pants please)
to work, and a white t-shirt to be worn under your uniform shirt to
be issued to you for the event. Shirts and visors will be given to
you, and are to be turned in at the end of the event so we can have
them cleaned.
-- You need to enter the building at the University Avenue side of
the building. At report time, there will only be one door open where
the “Pass Gate” is set up. You will check in at the pass
gate and receive a “Game Tag”. The pass gate person will
then direct you to the concession office in Williams Arena.
• Directions for Mariucci for Men’s Hockey Games
Report to Mariucci Arena: 1912 5th St SE.
-- Enter the building at the 5th St Loading Dock. If the garage door
is not open you will need to ring Aramark on the key pad (start 500).
We will buzz the workers in, the office is right inside the loading
dock door.
-- Shirts and visors will be supplied at report time. The shirts are
short sleeved, so you may wear a white long sleeved shirt under the
shirt we give you. It can be pretty cold in here at times.
